Subject: UNBATCHING DICS MAIL.??
......
i)
I have a problem unbatching my mail in DICS. Its recieves the mail OK it's
just when the DICSUBAT.BAT is run it says there is nothing to unbatch.
press a key to continue.... then SNEWS should load but doesn't.
The demon\spool\article\BATCH.TXT file is present but it won't unbacth it.?
I HAVE changed the paths in the batch file and its placed in the c:\demon
directory.! can anyone help.. I remember reading summin like this in the
newsgroups the other day but now i can't find it. <typical>:-]
ii)
This doesn't seem to affect normal FTPs etc in WINSOCK but sometimes when i've
been running multiple sessions and i'm finished, I go to close the the TCPMAN
and in the script window I see "ERROR: WSAENOTSOCK (65535)" this may be after
a timeout or summin' but it doesn't seem critical.
Any HELP and advice would be Xtreamly greatful.!!

Subject: Winsock, Netware 4.01, and SMC E16 Soup...
Greetings all.
I'm setting up Internet access for my company, and was hoping someone
with a similar setup would have mercy upon the uninitiated, and allow me
to benefit from their experience. :-)
Firstly, Internet access is being provided by Netcom, through a 14.4Kb
SLIP modem connection. The machine running the modem, to be known as the
Internet Gateway, will be running Chameleon, and doing the 'routing'.
The Internet Gateway will also be hooked up to our Novell Netware 4.01
network.
What I want to happen is pretty simple conceptually. Someone at a
machine on the Novell Network can run NCSA's windows telnet (or
another PD telnet package) locally, and have a 'seemingly' transparent
view of the internet, through the internet gateway.
I will have Netcom's assistance in setting up the gateway, so I am worried
about getting a telnet program to run over Netware 4.01. I'm sure I
will need the winsock (I need to use windows apps), but am not sure what
else I will need. Looking at the packet driver collection, ipxpkt also
seems necessary. Many of the workstations will not be on the same 'backbone'
as the Internet gateway, but rather on the "other side" of the multi-nic
server.
Nearly all the machines we use have SMC Elite 16 cards. The following is
how we get our network going, from startnet.bat:
lh LSL
lh SMC8000.COM
lh IPXODI
lh VLM
and this is the stardard net.cfg:
Link Driver SMC8000
FRAME Ethernet_802.3
INT 2
PORT 280
MEM D0000
NetWare DOS Requester
FIRST NETWORK DRIVE = F
On the gateway, I'm able to run the NMODI driver as well, if that
makes any difference.
Any hints or tips in how to get this all together would be greatly
appreciated!

Subject: Winsock setup help needed
I have a Netware 3.11 server running TCPIP, a UNIX box with 24hr SLIP with
an ethernet board. I can't seem to get any applications (ftp, telnet, etc)
to work from a PC on the LAN. Here is my setup :
LH LSL
LH SMC8000
LH IPXODI
LH ODIPKT
LH WINPKT 0x69
LH NETX
When in Windows I run TCPMAN which loads fine and I have it configured
to be an IP address on the network , correct nameserver, etc, but when I run
ws_ping I can't ping anything on the network.
If I need to specify more info please let me know and I will follow up.

Subject: I need Help on winsock programming
Hello there,
well I must do a communication program by using winsock. I am doing tha in
visual C++ for windows (microsoft package). But I haven'y any idea of what the winsock functions look like.
All I need to have is the whole documentation on how to program winsock (and to know the function of winsock.dll)
So if someone can help me by telling me where I can find the documention.
Thanks a lot.

If your looking for something shell like you might want to try that ftp
deamon thingy on cica. Its pretty cool... Ive got it up & running & it allows
the remote user access to most dos commands...

It takes down my NT box as well. I was trying to talk to a user on a UNIX box
running the old protocol where the user was logged in more than once. I got
a whole series of dialogs flashing across my screen and then it locked up.

Subject: * HOW DO YOU SET UP WINSOCK WITH TEMPORARY TCP/IP ADDR? *
I've seen this posted before here but I didn't need the
answer until now. My brother just subscribed to infinet
and infinet assigns a new TCP/IP address every time he
logs on. How do you deal with Winsock and other compliant
clients that expect you to know your address ahead of time?
How do you find your gateway address? Are there any
sample login scripts out there?
Please E-mail me since I don't read this group that often.
Thanks,
Dave

You're not quite specific enough about your situation. Is your machine hooked
into the net via ethernet and always on? If so, you can run your own SMTP
server. I run SMTP, and POP3 servers on a machine in my lab on campus. I can
then read my mail in the lab or via POP3 from home over slip.
